Changing Keys - Billy McLaughlin and the Mysteries of Dystonia

Billy McLaughlin is an artist and composer. For twenty years he astounded audiences around the world with his complex and rhythmic music. His music had carried him around the world and to Billboard’s Top 10 Chart.

In 2001 Billy’s career was over when he was diagnosed with focal dystonia in his right hand rendering him unable to perform. Now he has done the unthinkable, relearning his songs left handed. Billy is astounding audiences once more with his story and his music.

In 2007, McLaughlin released “Into the Light,” a concert recording of compositions for acoustic guitar with string orchestra; it was his first as a left-handed guitarist

The documentary “Changing Keys,” chronicling his struggles, the medical mysteries of dystonia, and his musical comeback, premiered on PBS in April. Multiple rebroadcasts of the documentary will run throughout the summer. Changing Keys is an award winning documentary directed and produced by Suzanne Jurva.

Mclaughlin is a voluntary ambassador for the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation.
